Walter E. Cole, American Legion Annual Legionnaire Golf Tournament:

The fourth annual Post 187 Legionnaire Golf Tournament is now history.

The Brevofield Links were in great shape as reported by the Tournament Directors. Calling all the participants to the Tee Boxes at the start of the tournament; we were honored to have Mayor Vivian Jones. Winning the top award for the best overall score was the team sponsored by the Wake Forest Police Department with Ed Lind as the manager. The recipient who had the longest drive of the day was Evan Pfifer. Taking home the prize for winning the putting challenge was Ty Raynor. The winner of the 40” color TV & mounting bracket grand prize was Cody Davis pictured behind his reward. The Tournament Director wishes to thank every participant for their enthusiastic support of the tournament. The directors were pleased to have such a large enthusiastic group of players exhibiting their skill and dexterity in the art of chasing a little white ball over hill and dale on the renovated cow pastures. We regret that not one of the tournament golfers won the $5,000 prize for the “Hole in One” on the par three 9th hole; even though some players came awfully close. The tournament was a huge success providing local veterans in need with the resources necessary to make their lives more tolerable. According to Tournament Director, Mike Janssen, “The proceeds derived from this event will provide invaluable resources for our veterans and their family to meet the everyday ailments brought about by having served in the nation’s military.” Once again we wish to thank Sam’s Club for donating the food for our prepared lunch and Wake Forest Award and Engraving for providing the participant awards.
