Aug. 25: Traffic Alert – South Brooks Street

Raleigh Water will close the portion of South Brooks Street from Wait Avenue to East Roosevelt Avenue Wednesday, Aug. 25, from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. The closure is necessary to allow crews to install a water valve. Water and sewer service in the area will not be affected.

A detour will be in place directing motorists around the area. Delays are expected, so drivers are urged to avoid the area and take an alternate route. For more information, contact Raleigh Water Utilities Coordinator Meriam Manuel at 919-996-2368 or Meriam.manuel@raleighnc.gov.

The Town of Wake Forest offers an interactive map that gives residents a user-friendly and convenient way to view local road closures and restrictions. Accessible under “Common Resources” on the homepage of the Town website, the Traffic Alerts Map allows visitors to point and click on current road and lane closures throughout Wake Forest to view descriptions of the work being performed. Motorists are encouraged to use the information to help plan their route and move safely through work areas.

Planned road closures and restrictions are necessary to allow for a variety of work. Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, town staff works with contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.

When traveling through a construction area, drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians are asked to be patient, proceed with caution, and obey flaggers. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers are also urged to double their following distances.
